Life in Grunkin (known as Kom to the humans) was simple but fun during your childhood. You were born to relatively high rank in the Hargill tribe, a definite advantage that you were wise enough to use when trolling for Trollets (Trollesses? You're a Troll, you figure out the terminology!). As a lesser Troll, you had your own set of little Trollkin that lavished doglike affection on you. Ah, the memories of the last time you played trollkin ball, knocking down at least eight of twelve trollkin with your skillful toss of the boulder, and the admiring glances of the cute young Daughter Ballcrusher still fill you with nostalgia. That was before the puny humans, though. Three years ago (10498 by the human calendar) an invasion force of humans landed on the Lanoitalis Sea Peninsula, mounting an offensive into the very heart of Hargill territory. This was not the typical Troll like desire to have a little fun bashing each other over the head with sticks and hurling screaming trollkin at one another either; these folks were playing for keeps, and killed on purpose. The Grunkin tribes fell before the onslaught.
At the time, you had been introduced to the order of Bonecrusher the Ancient. Trolls tend towards ancestor worship, and your order was no different. Bonecrusher the Ancient was one of many who added to the Law of the Troll Tribes Song, used to pass along the lore that all Troll Tribes live by (some say that it was written in the days of the Greater Trolls, but writing was one of the many arts lost since the disappearance of the Great Ones). Bonecrushers passage contained a simple message; competition brought strength, and organization brought cooperation and therefore weakness. Thus the Troll Tribes forever remained separate, fighting from time to time to maintain strength. Bonecrushers order fights to maintain individual strength through competition.
Your wisdom brought you great honor as a lay member, and you decided to enter the order. You can still remember the day you were brought to the burial mound of Bonecrusher, and the ceremony that still seems a picture sharp image in your mind; afterwards, you found you had clerical powers at your command. The future seemed bright.
All that changed with the humans. The Kom Offensive was bad enough in an of itself; but to add insult to injury, the Order of Treeshredder the Concilitator gained more and more power in the tribes as the human lines cut deeper and deeper into Troll
